My favourite! I don't care if I am on a diet, I will have it anyway.
I used to have it a lot when I was in UK. Its difficult to find it now that I am back here in Malaysia. But thankfully I found 2 places where I can get it.
1) The Teapot - SS2.
Tried it. YUMMY! Very close to the original. Downside is that it closes early on Sundays (2pm) and its the only day that we are free to go there for tea. But when we move to PJ I can go on Saturdays!!!! YAY
2) Ms Read's cafe (I think its called Delicious... I could be terribly wrong)
Not tried it yet but am looking forward to.
Its not difficult to make. In school, during ERT (Ekonomi Rumah Tangga, anybody remember this??) we used to make them. At that time I did not know that eating it with cream and jam was yummy. I can't remember the recipe from before but I managed to get it from the net. Looks about right. But have not tried it yet though.
Traditional English Scones
(10 servings)
2 and 1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup bread flour
6 Tablespoon sugar
1 and 1/2 Tablespoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
4 and 1/2 Tablespoon chilled unsalted butter -- cut into pieces
1 Tablespoon milk
2 large eggs
1 large egg yolk
1 cup raisins (optional)
Mix dry ingredients in large bowl. Add butter, cutting it in with pastry blender or two knives, until mixture resembles fine meal. Add milk, eggs and yolk, then raisins and mix intil fully incorporated.
Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface.
Press dough into 1-thick rounds with floured 3-inch round cookie cutter.
Gather scraps and reform into 1-inch thick rounds.
Transfer rounds to prepared baking sheet, spacing evenly.
Bake until golden brown, about 25 minutes.
Serve with clotted cream(this one we cannot get in Malaysia. Might have to improvise with unsweetened whip cream instead. Or maybe buy it from The Teapot) and jam.
