Malaysian parking habits

Hubby and I were at BSC the other day. We were planning to have dinner at Hatsuhana. They’ve got a new menu there and its tastier than before too!

Anyways, back to the point. As usual the parking lot was full and we tawafed and circled in hopes to get a space. Suddenly we spotted one. It was quite far away from the entrance of the mall though. I said “ Alaaaa so far laaah”…. Then we spotted another one … hubby goes ..” Too far oso!” Finally we found one reasonable close to the entrance. Ok lah… this will do.

That is Malaysian’s parking habit. If possible, we would like to park right in front of the entrance, right next to the lift! If the car can be parked right next to the shops even better!

On a different note, if I were driving alone, I would park as close as possible to the entrance or lifts of the mall. I personally feel uncomfortable walking alone in the parking area. I get really nervous and paranoid. Especially if another man was walking in the same direction as me. I would actually let him walk past first or pretend to walk towards a different car. With all the kidnapping stories, rape, murder and carjacking, you really need to take extra precautions.

This is what I normally do. When walking towards my car, I always look around to see if there are any suspicious looking people loitering about. If all clear, then I would make my way to my car. If there were other people walking in the same direction as me (especially men), I would let them walk past first. Or, I would pretend to walk to a different car. I would get my car keys ready before I get into the parking area, so I won’t have to rummage through my bag and be exposed to being robbed. Once at the car, I would get in immediately, lock the car and leave the parking lot as soon as I can.

If I was looking for a parking space, I would try to get a space as close as possible to the entrance of the building (of course! Hehe). I would try to avoid secluded corners, and choose normally spaces where people would normally walk past. I would organize my stuff eg handbag, handphone etc…. before I unlock and get out of the car. After getting out, I would leave the parking lot as fast as I can.

Paranoid huh…. I developed this habit when I had my back problem. I could not defend myself as well as I would if my back was ok. So I made sure that I would be exposed to less danger as possible. Before, I could throw a pretty good punch and kick!! But when I had my back problem, I was defenseless. But I guess the above habit is useful no matter what my health condition was.

Lin,
Park as close as you can to the public access or entrance. KL is not safe anymore...

You r right Jamie!

Don't know what is wrong with people now a days. Thugs are getting more and more brave. In bright day light and public pun boleh carjack, kidnap... And people around you won't help either.... they just stare. Did you read about the carjacking infront of a clinic where a wife and newborn was in the car while the husband was being attacked? That was in broad daylight k. The poor wife could only watch cos she was holding their newborn.

I am afraid to even go out! Kalau ada bodyguard kan best :D

i hv this kinda gila-gila friend who actually parked on the roadside, switched on the hazard lights of his wira, bukak the engine hood and left the poor car for a meeting....and it survived!
