VIPs and punctuality

I was reading a small article on the newspaper the other on VIPs and punctuality. It was one of those write in your thoughts and comments type sections.

Indeed as far back as our school days, we often invite VIPs to our functions such as Hari Sukan, Prefects Installation day etc.. And without fail, they would turn up late. Not just 5 mins... but as late as 2 hours! And you know how in these functions all the students involved would be standing in the school field, waiting to begin their ceremony, all well dressed and poised... wanting to show their best. Only to find these inconsiderate VIPs turning up late. How often do we see our these students fainting in the sun due to the unbearable heat and standing for hours, waiting for the event to start. Why on earth do we put up with these people? Why is it so important that these VIPs grace our ceremonies? Is it so important that they are there, when they show no respect for others? What do we get from it?

This does not only apply to schools. These VIPs don't even show courtesy at weddings. Somehow if we know that a certain VIP is invited, then the ceremony would most certainly be delayed for at least 1 hour. At invitations like these, I would normally have my dinner before hand. Why do we have to make way for these bozos. Who are they in our life anyways? Its just somebody with a fancy title. Do they give a hoot that you are getting married? Tunjuk muka cukup la. Give face.

Malaysians give so much to VIPs. To me they are just people. Normal people. So what if they have fancy titles. Does that mean that people have to be at the mercy of their time? To me, they have no respect. Worst still, they probrably won't even show up!

My hubby does a lot of events. It sickens me as to how much do go through just because a certain VIP will be attending. It cost so much more and everybody is has to make way just to entertain them. In the end, they show up late and only to stay for 5 minutes.

VIP = Very Inconsiderate People
