My new HKS air filter!

Froggie's got a new set of lungs! I finally got to install an open air filter for her. There's definitely a marked differences. With the breathing in improved, the lower end torque definitely increased. She's a lot smoother and cruising effortlessly.
Froggie was purchased completely stock and original. Her performance was not that great. Quite sluggish and not much pick up. Not much fun to drive. So since I managed to get an extractor first, that was the first to go on. That takes care of her breathing out. There was definitely an improvement there!
Then, a fellow mx-5 club member, UC, so kindly sms ed me and told me that he has a second hand HKS open air filter for sale at a bargain price of RM150. I agreed to take immediately.
So with both breathing in and breathing out taken care of.... the results are estounding. Froggie is a lot smoother, and faster!!
Am thinking of removing the cat converter soon. Thats meant to give a little bit more too. I wanted to try out the new air filter before I did that or I would be able to tell the difference between the air filter and removing the cat.

Now that you've used a free flow air filter, suggest that you get the engine Dyno'ed. Check the graph for any flat spots and ask them to tune the engine for you (to more or less eliminate the flat spot).
Your engine might have a cut off limiter. You might want to change your chip to a performance one too.
Getting it dyno'ed is a good idea! Might go and do that.
I am quite reluctant about the performance chip. True it would make the car faster, but it will also drink petrol like a fish!
Sorry, just read about the cat part. Your car has been optimised to use the cat. Removing it MAY make more holes (increase in the number of flat spots). Tuning it may be a problem.
Using bigger pipes may eliminate the gas problems. Suggest you do a pre and post dyno (with and without cat). However it will burn a hole in your pocket la.
But then again, a petrol-head like you won't mind kan? ;-)
*peace*
Petrol - head?? What?
I can't afford to dyno so many times la. R u nuts? The most I prob do is remove the cat and then dyno it just one time. I'm not that hardcore anyways, so I prob won't bother at all with the dyno.
Next project: Handling.
