A weekend get away....

Old Melaka house

I was there a few months back when hubby had to work, I did my own walking tour to take some pictures. I did not have enough money that time to go shopping, so I could only make a wish list and hopefully this time, I get to buy something.

Melaka really surprises me. I’ve never actually toured Melaka before the walking tour that I did. Well, the Standard 6 school trip that most people make don’t really count. There is actually loads to see there. Jonkers for one for loads of stuff to see. The old architectures of the buildings there are really interesting. I love old buildings. I love taking pictures of them too. Then there are all those antiques that they sell. But I do wonder, if they keep selling it, and they are old stuff that people used to own, how come they still have loads in stock? Wouldn’t they run out? Somebody must be mass producing them somewhere and claim that it is old. I’ve also seen lots of wood carving things that they claim are from parts of old houses. There seem to be loads of them lying around too. I wonder how many houses were butchered for those?

Anyways, besides the antiques, there are also loads of interesting pubs. One pub that I recall from my first trip there is called Harpers. It’s a small English pub next to the river infront of Stydhuyst ( I hope I spelled this right. That famous red building with the clock tower). There is apparently another famous one called Geography, where all the tourist like to hang out. I must check out that one too. I’ve also been told about this restaurant called Berts Garden. Located at Kelebang, it is apparently an on old bungalow with a breath taking view Selat Melaka.

In my previous trip, I stopped by this Baba Nyonya Museum. It is an old house that they turned into a museum. It was quite expensive to get in. I think it was something like RM10. They also provide a guided tour. The guide, dressed in old nyonya kebayas explained about all the different rooms in the house, the old furniture and paintings and mosaics and basically all the old stuff in the house. After that we are free to walk around. I noticed lots of art students wondering around with art paper and pencils, sketching away intricate designs of old wood carving and things. It was interesting. Well worth to visit.

Since tomorrow night is the eve of Chap Goh Mei, I was also told that there will be some festival going on at Jonkers Walk. And there will be a night market too! Wooo hooo. I love night markets.

I hope the weather will be cooler this weekend. Nevertheless I need to be prepared for it. Both for the wedding AND the shopping.

Its gonna be gooooood!!

Have a good weekend y’all!!

Yup. I agree; the Rombongan Sambil Belajar I had when I was in primary 5 did not do justice to Malacca.

In the past 4 years, Fariz and I have been frequenting Malacca every few months to enjoy what Jonker Street has to offer. We simply love Malacca (and I think, the people at Renaissance Hotel Malacca are the nicest customer oriented bunch).

Best kan! I love walking into the shops in Jonkers. I love the courtyard in the middle. I love how everyshop does their courtyard up differently. I love the little cafe's there. I will definitely go there more often! Even if it is to have a drink in the cafes
