On responsibilities

An article in the newspaper today brought my attention on how we must have a “catch” to everything. Some while ago, a lucky draw was organized for those who change to mykad. The prize was apparently a Myvi or a Suzuki scooter. This stupid draw is to be called off apparently. A Minister with a brain finally spoke up. (sorry la... too lazy to provide links. You can check out The Star for the article)

Changing to the mykad is everyone’s responsibility. Yes, I too was late, but do we need a bait to get people off their asses to get them renewed? Why can’t we take upon us what we are responsible for and do the necessary as required. Why can’t we comply because it is the right thing to do. Just because nobody is watching, does not mean that we need to have the attitude that we could get away with it.

If we think about it, sometimes we hear expressions like, “Nobody can see what….. nevermind la” Or “No need la…. Nothing will happen”.

Why is it that we always have to be monitored in order to comply. When something is of our responsibility, shouldn’t we just do it? Do we have to wait for somebody to “catch” us for it before we get going?

We don’t live in a communist country. We are a developed nation. Most of us are educated. By now we should be able to recognize our responsibilities and be aware that reasons behind the choice of our actions comes from within, not because there will be somebody there to slap our wrist if we do not comply. Lets do things because it comes from the heart, not because others are watching.
