Mothers Day

Since I’ve got so many mothers in my life, my mom, my mother in law and my grand mother, I decided to make a special lunch at home, instead of going out.

The menu was Mee Kari. I made lots of these in my Uni days, but none since I came home. So with fingers cross, hoping that it will taste like it should, I started cooking on Saturday, with the thought that if I screw up, we could always buy some biryani instead hehe.

Since everyone is health conscious and my mother in law could not have santan, I had to use milk instead for the gravy, which is something that I have never done before. Surprisingly, it tastes just fine. I combined evaporated milk and full cream milk. For dessert, I made mixed fruit trifle. It’s a simple trifle with just custard and a tin of mixed fruit. Chilled in the fridge overnight, it is yummy and simple to make.

Finally on Sunday, everyone came. My family, my in laws and my grand ma. They enjoyed the mee kari (though nobody said sedap oso). I suppose they enjoyed it la. Hubby said it was delicious, then again, he prob said that to make me happy :) My sister also brought dessert, a pie from the Ikea supermarket called Almondy. It is SUPER Sedap!!! A must try! It tastes like caramel/ choc with crunchy bits and layers of something creamy. Not sure what it is, but sooooo sedap! So combining my trifle, the almondy pie and ice-cream, the dessert was a fulfilling ending to the lunch.

I love cooking for people. I can’t wait for Fathers Day. I’ve got a menu lined up already
