Junior's Room

We decided to NOT to go for the cliche pink or blue. We wanted a different colour theme. So we decided on yellow. Not only it is versatile and something different, if and when we have number 2, we don't have to change room colours :)

So hubby picked out the shade of yellow. I did remind him to get a rather strong yellow, otherwise the colour won't stand out. From my previous experience at my condo, you can mistake it as just being off white. So off he went and got Custard Yellow. I thought, ok, this should do it. With the help of my dear aunt, whom we call Ah Yee, we set off to paint juniors room. Of course there was an outcry from mum because I am not meant to do any sort of refurbishment type work while I am pregnant. Some chinese pantang. Being the rebellious me, I did it anyway. I mean, how else are we going to get everything ready! Malays also has some sort of pantang with yellow painted walls. Something to do with a higher risk of jaundice. I will leave it to you to work out how that is even possible.....

So here are some shots from painting junior's room.

Daddy busy painting

Our best aunt in the world helping us out.

Most of his furniture came from Ikea i.e his changing station, chest of drawers and a shelving unit. It was just easy to just go to one store and get everything. Except for his cot. Ikea cots are a bit shoddy so we got his cot from Baby Jaya. They have cots that are made locally for export. They seem very sturdy and the price seem very reasonable. It is also a cot bed where the cot can be converted into a small bed. At first we wanted to get the ones from Mothercare, but they are SO expensive and its mattress size will only fit sheets from Mothercare. Smart market positioning but not too smart on my pocket. Their mattress is larger than the one we got from Baby Jaya so we still can get Mothercare sheets. So this is one thing to be aware of when buying cots. Make sure you can buy sheets for it! You really don't want to specially tailor sheets for your cot when there are cutesey ones at the shop. But still, Malaysia has very limited stores where you can buy decent quality sheets. Very depressing indeed. Hubby had to assemble the cot himself as the Baby Jaya says "its only 8 screws sir!" So he thought ok.... easy peasy... So here's hubby huffing and puffing putting his son's first bed together... Thankfull Ikea is able to assemble their furniture for us!

Following instructions very carefully

Almost there....

Tadaaaaaa........

We decorated the walls with some animal stickers we found at a baby shop. We love them because they look like they are hand drawn with crayons.

Almost done. Just a little bit more soft finishes, soft toys etc....

Gosh I hate parquet flooring. Maybe one day we can afford timber floorboards. His room is not quite finished yet. There are still a few finishing touches to add. A nice carpet is one of them... and maybe something nice to put on the chest of drawers. His cot has been moved to our room until he is much older and can sleep on his own.

The stickers are an excellent decor idea kan. They instantly brighten up a child's room. The girls have some fairies ones on the walls in their rooms. Too cute!! :))

Rajin Acai ye. I bet he'll be one of those doting Dads who wouldn't mind waking up in the middle of the night to tend to the baby's crying needs...hihi :D Salam to him yea. :)
