My photography teacher Alex Moh had an exhibition at Darling Muse gallery. On Saturday, he organized a cheese and wine forum session. I’ve always visited Alex’s exhibitions. Am a big fan of his work. This exhibition at Darling Muse was featuring Black and White photos with colours added after it is processed.
What he does is, to make it simple, he processes the prints and then paints on top of it with a special oil colour that you can only purchase in the US. Eric Peris, also a famous photograher of B&W also exhibited his work. He uses crayons on his B&W.
Anyways, after some cheese and wine and karipap ( they were dam good, those karipaps), the forum began. Eric Peris could not attend due to some urgent matters. Alex invited S, a director from the National Art Gallery to join him instead.
So the topic was on Alex and Eric’s work. Instead, S dominated the forum with fine art! I mean…. Fine art seriously goes way over my head. From art appreciation, to the number of galleries to art politics! Aiyo… it became boring man. Alex tried in vain to steer the conversation back to photography, but the discussion became heated when another woman, strutted into the forum started criticizing the National Art Museum.
I personally thought that the S was being snooty about how art must be exhibit worthy. To me, art is art. And it can be in any form, whether it is exhibit worthy or not! She complained that schools do not visit the National Art Gallery often enough and that our students are just not interested in art. Well, since she is the director of the gallery…. Then DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT LA. Set up some projects. Make it interesting for students to visit the gallery.
I got bored and decided to have more cheese and wine instead.
