Sommerset, Rompin

Last weekend hubby had his company’s away day. It was a blast! They should do it every year.

This was how it went. Destination: Sommerset, Rompin.

It started on Friday, so I had to take the day off. We left about 8am to meet at 9 am at the Dunkin Donuts at the Sungai Besi toll. After everyone had arrived we took off. It was an interesting drive. We went via Kuala Pilah. It was my first time on that route! Was hoping to see some Minang Kabau houses, but there was none. Quite a let down. But the drive was interesting. Nearby, a town called Jempol, is also where they have dragon fruit orchards. So you get lots of people selling dragon fruits along the site of the road. We did not stop by to get any though.

We finally got to Sommerset at about 2pm. By that time, Abang Zul and his crew had already prepared lunch. A canopy was set up behind our chalets and it was where we had all our meals throughout the weekend. Compliments to the chef(s), the meals were great!! Simple home cooked dishes but sedaaaaaap.

After lunch, it was free and easy, so we settled down into our rooms. The pictures on Sommerset’s website was deceiving I tell you. The place was so poorly maintained. Sure its actually quite nice, complete with outdoor showers and everything, but the place looked like nobody occupied it for a long time. The air conditioning in our room was not working, so we had to call maintenance. Same complain came from the other chalets. The doors won’t close properly due to warping. We can’t do anything bout that, so we just had to kick the door shut. But everything else was fine. The chalet was HUGE though.

Evening came and the guys had a volleyball match. The kids splashed in the nearby pool, while I went around taking pictures with my spanking new 350D. I was a bit nervous cos the pictures from the bird park did not turn out too good. So I was a bit more careful with my settings this time round. Thankfully, most turned out great. Not so thankfully, I forgot my camera cable so I could not transfer my images to my laptop (which I brough along). So I had to set to medium size format. I was way pissed.

After volleyball, we set off home for a shower and dinner.

Dinner was sedap! Simple ikan goring, kari ayam, ulam, sambal cincaluk and air sirap. Best! Unfortunately, hubby had food poisoning soon after and was puking all night! Kept me awake in the process too.

Next morning, we had golf!! We played at the Lanjut Golf Resort. It was by the beach. Unfortunately from the 2 nines, only 1 nine was open, so we had to play it twice. There were 2 flights. First flight, 3 people including hubby’s boss. Second flight me and hubby and 2 others. All four of us are pretty much at beginners level, so it was fun. No pressures from the lagi tera! Hubby, weak from the previous night’s ordeal, did not finish the game. I was quite pleased. None of my tee off shots jadi (gee weeeez!!) by irons jadi lah pulak! Its either one or the other, I tell you. But on the last 2 holes I discovered that my tee was too low. Once I had it higher, then it was ok!! I was pleased with some of my putts. Pitching was not too awful. Managed to get the ball on the green on one attempt. Usually it goes over a few times before the ball decides to land nicely on the green!!

The first flight finished bout 2 hours before us!! Haha… we took our time cos there were no pressures from flights behind us. Kat KL mana dapat macam ni k! Kat belakang orang mesti dah cekak pinggang dah.

Got back to the hotel after golf and hubby pengsan sampai malam. Exhausted due to lack of water and food. So I oso pengsan with him. Best…. Pasang aircon…. And then boom…. Tiduurrrr.

That night, we had a BBQ, followed by a karaoke competition. They also celebrated the March and April birthdays. Also some price giving for the kids and “Isteri yang memahami” category hehe. The guys travel loads you see, and more than often, you hear the wives (including me!!) complaining. At least we are appreciated! Haha!

Karaoke was fun. Everyone was forced to sing and join the competition. We got one of those karaoke mikes that has about 1000 songs in it. U just need to plug in the mike into the TV and that’s it! Cool kan. So anyways, I sang “Dancing Queen” by ABBA. My favourite karaoke song. Voice cracking and all, belasah je! Haha and I won too. The mike thing has this provides a score after you finish the song. Handy for karaoke competitions! I got 100% haha!! Kelakar giler.

Next morning, a small group of us went to have an ATV ride. Best giler! They only had 4 ATVs available, one for the guide. That only leaves 3 for us. Since there was about 8 of us, we split into 2 groups and hubby and I shared 1. It was a bash!! We zoomed on the long stretch of road that leads out of the resort, and then into the jungle. Zoomed around the bushes, into terains, crashed into trees hehe…. BEST MAN! If anybody got a chance… got for it! The next group went and came back as excited as us!

Lastly, we had nasi minyak for lunch, Abang Zul and crew memang tera la ( he made nasi lemak for breakfast pulak tuh). We checked out at 3pm and headed for home.

Took us 6 hours to get home because there was an accident at Bukit Putus. Got home at bout 9pm.

Discovered that my guppies had babies when I got home!!!

It was a great weekend.

Pictures at a later date. Something is wrong with Flickr.

Yea... everything is buruk now. sayang... the chalet memang cantik.

I was prepared to get lots of good shots, but got nothing much la. Sommerset did not have much interesting sights to shoot, except for the beach which is quite ordinary. I was rather disappointed with that, but nevertheless, the company and activities made up for it.

I was at Sommerset Rompin when Tsunami struck 2 years ago ..........
I enjoyed the quiet serenity that it offers, but it brought so much uneasy memories when I think about that morning when I switch on CNN and saw what had happened to those on the other side of the sea.

Leilanie: How was it back then? Best tak? I don mind going back and try the hotel rooms pulak kut. It is very very quiet. And it beats going to the Eat Coast.

Hubby colleague who was sharing a chalet with us kena kacau. Dia pulak tak kejut kan kita orang. He was so scared he went over to the nexy chalet to tumpang and left us alone with the hantu!
