What I’ve learned in taking pictures

For other people that is.

Of late, I’ve been taking pictures for my company’s bulletin. I find that it is important to meet other people’s requirements when taking pictures. Some exposures may be acceptable to me, but some may want it brighter, for example.

When it comes to taking pictures for other people. It is important to recognize what other people may expect. For most, pictures must be bright, and sharp. Sounds obvious, but some may want blurring effects, or shadow effects for some artistic results. As these are personal preferences, one has to be aware of what other people might want in a picture.

With this, photoshop can be a saviour.

In my recent shoots, I had to take department photos, prize giving photos. Though it may be acceptable to me, I also had to bear in mind how it would turn out if printed. All this has to be taken into consideration when producing prints for booklets and brochures.

My intention when I volunteered to be the photographer for my company’s bulletin was exactly met. I wanted to be exposed to the different occasions at which pictures are taken. Prints, brochures, artistic shots, B&W, children’s parties, weddings, portraits of people, street shots all have different requirements and preparations.

Learning is an endless journey.
