Ushering the Chinese New Year

This year, we are far more organized than the previous years. We vowed not to trudge into the dead of night on the eve for stalls selling them. Yes this year we are far more prepared.

We've already bought our oranges for Chinese New Year.

Being a mud blood (Chinese and Malay mix), I celebrate both CNY and Hari Raya. Hari Raya preparation usually involves getting your baju Raya ready and then the night before you look for lemang and rendang. Usually just to bring as "buah tangan" for my in-laws and parents. And of course the usual stock up of Raya cookies which ends up in the bin after Syawal is over.

For CNY, preparation involves buying something red to wear on CNY day. Also for 'buah tangan' we have to get oranges and some goodies such as a box of chocolate, sweets, kacang etc. It is customary to place about 3 or 5 (must always be odd number) oranges in a bag together with the goodies for the buah tangan. So every year we have to look for oranges at the last minute at SS2 or Uptown.

For CNY eve dinner, my grandmother usually cooks and we would have dinner at her house. But in the last few years we've been eating out as she's too tired to cook a large meal for the whole family. We offered to help but she would not hear of it. So this year, our CNY eve dinner will be held at Min Max Chinese Restaurant at PNB Derby Park. We usually go to this place for their Dim Sum. Very cheap and good! Its not a buffet package but each basket is individually priced. It works out far cheaper than paying per pax for buffet.

So I hope those who are celebrating CNY has already started their shopping. Please don't over crowd the malls this weekend. Saying that I better look for something red to wear soon!
